San Mateo Whiplash Treatment by Spicer Chiropractic
What is a Whiplash Injury?
Whiplash treatment is used to help treat someone who has recently experienced an injury. Whiplash, itself, is a term used to explain a mechanism of injury to the neck where there is a rapid movement of the head causing pain in the neck. This can occur in a variety of settings, including car accidents, sports injuries, and amusement park rides. When the head rapidly moves either back to front, side to side, or any opposing direction, this will cause damage and result in neck pain. Neck pain is not generally felt immediately after the injury.
Common Whiplash Symptoms
If you have gone through trauma, it is important to pay attention to your symptoms as it will likely indicate that you need to see medical care quickly. Common symptoms people experience with whiplash include:
- Neck Pain
- Stiffness in the neck
- increased pain with movement
- Pain in the shoulder
- Upper back or arms pain
- Tingling in the arms
Some people also experience blurred vision, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), sleep disturbances, irritability, memory problems, and depression although they are not pain-like issues that most people commonly assume are the result of an injury.
When Should You See a Doctor for Whiplash?
Following a traumatic event, it is important to not brush off your injuries, as it could create complications in the short and long term. It is very important to seek medical care. The ER or Urgent care has on-sight resources available to evaluate your condition for immediate concerns of injury. As your chiropractor, I am trained to evaluate your symptoms, and I refer out to a medical doctor when and if necessary, as some cases require more doctors on your team to best serve your needs.
