Neck Pain

Neck Pain Treatment in San Mateo

Neck pain treatment is one of the most common treatments that are provided by chiropractors. Chiropractors are commonly known for their treatment of the spine. The neck is considered part of the spine. Neck pain troubles those of all ages whether they are active or not. In this page, I will cover some common questions associated with neck pain treatment and how chiropractors have been helping treat neck pain effectively without the use of drugs or surgery.

What is Neck Pain?

Have you ever found yourself looking up from your phone and discovered your neck was stiff and painful, maybe even some numbness in your hands? Or wake up with a crick in the neck? Often times postures that we prefer can cause dysfunction in our neck and lead to a variety of complications. One thing to note is I find that neck pain is commonly associated with upper back pain issues too since they are so close to one another.

Common Neck Pain Symptoms and Causes

Neck pain is a common complaint, people often experience pain, stiffness, spasms, decreased range of motion when you look over your shoulder when checking for traffic. Neck pain can also be linked to headaches, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, and irritability. Neck pain can also manifest in the shoulders, arms, hands, and fingers as pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness. Causes for neck pain include, but certainly not limited to forward head posture (literally sticking your head forward of your body is very common!), degeneration, trauma, sleeping on surfaces with poor neck support. Can you recall falling asleep on the couch while watching TV, or a different pillow when you travel and waking up with legitimate neck pain?

How is Neck Pain Relieved and Treated?

When I work with patients looking for neck pain treatment, my focus is on function. If we can increase the function and the pain levels decreasing will follow. I provide gentle adjustments to the neck and educate each patient in their own specific exercise catered to their body’s needs. This provides them with relief, active solutions they can do at home, and education as to how to change their behavior patterns to reduce the risk of re-injuring their neck.

Benefits of a Chiropractor for Neck Pain: Drug-Free and No surgery

More often than not, pain is the first thing to come and the last thing to leave. When you go to a chiropractor, they will most likely recommend adjustments as a neck pain treatment, just as an acupuncturist would recommend needles and a surgeon would recommend surgery. Chiropractic is not just the adjustment, it addresses whole-body health, as it is important to understand how the neck is connected to the body, how you sit, walk, simply live plays a role in your overall health and speed of recovery. I will help you with that, too.
